THROUGH NOMADLABWE AIM TO PROMOTE DIGITAL INCLUSION FOR DISADVANTAGED YOUNG PEOPLE FROM RURAL COMMUNITIES.

Nearly 50% of the world’s population, or 3.7 billion people, are digitally disconnected and most of them are women from developing countries. In Cambodia, only 52.6% of the population are Internet users. Unfortunately, vulnerable people are the most likely to be excluded from access to digital technology.

NomadLab program is a modular, open-source solution on tablets that aims to bridge the digital divide in rural and underserved communities; reaching 11,500 children (ages 6 – 18) and young adults.

A pilot project in Cambodia,

in partnership with SIPAR.

SIPAR is a non-profit organization which was created in 1982.
Its mission is to contribute to the development of Cambodia’s human capital, and in priority of its vulnerable populations, by promoting reading and access to knowledge and education. SIPAR developed networks of school and mobile libraries in villages over the last 25 years.

The partnership between PN and SIPAR allows the installation of a digital laboratory, the NomadLab, offering students digital supports for guidance and the strengthening of digital skills.

Since 2019, 27 NomadLabs have been deployed in 15 provinces within Cambodia.

DIGITAL SKILLS
TO HELP FIGHT POVERTY

In partnership with selected schools and Community Based Organizations (CBO) in rural communities, NomadLab boxes are deployed to libraries and youth club centers. Through NomadLab, disadvantaged students are equipped with knowledge and skills on basic computer use. They are given access to digital educational materials with topics on self-awareness, basic life skills, financial literacy, job readiness, career choices… That will prepare them for future employment.
