Students of PN Philippines displayed their creativity and love of the environment with a fashion event in April 2018.

The 1st year students of PN Philippines Class of 2020 unleashed their creative skills as they organized the first ever PN Trashion Show.

Aside from awakening their creative talents, this event also awakened another aspect of the students’ development: environmental awareness.

With the aim of producing elegant costumes out of recycled trash, the Trashion Show event showcased 10 different head-turning costumes made of used plastics bottles, paper, cellophane, cans and sacks collected from and around the PN Philippines centre. After weeks of preparation and creation, the students organized a fashion night in the PN Philippines centre where they modeled their stunning handmade outfits.

The fashion event drew positive reactions and comments from the audience who praised the students’ art and modelling skills.

I was not expecting much from the event but when I arrived at the venue, I was amazed of how beautiful the costumes were and how elegantly the students wore them. More importantly, I was glad on how they expressed their thoughts about Mother Earth and how to take care of it. Overall, as usual, the activity was very PNtastic! Congratulations to the people behind it!

The Trashion Show is part of the students’  Developmental Activities (DA) . With the goal of encouraging the students to become proactive, autonomous, respectful, and responsible citizens  with a critical and open mind, the DAs are designed in a way that incorporates all the significant aspects of a person’s development, thus including environmental awareness.

We organized the activity because we want to increase  students’ awareness of environmental issues in an entertaining way. I am happy to see that the activity was able to bring out their creativity, solidarity and sense of responsibility to the environment.  The Trashion Show is one of the activities we do to inspire and educate PN students to be agents of change in the community.

PN Philippines is proud of the success of the event. It was a testament to PN students’ commitment and diligence in showing their talents for a good cause.

The team is consistent in its goal of developing the students in a holistic manner: to be good not just at IT but also in other aspects of life. Thus, we are expecting to see more of such socially-relevant activities as the Trashion Show in the coming days. Watch out for the next one!
