PN Philippines invited partners and showcased new training curriculum from the IT skills market survey, highlights of the alumni impact survey, and other organizational announcements.

Last September 12th, PN Philippines gathered our partners from private, public, and nonprofit sectors to the event “Upscaling Innovative Digital Workforce”.

The main objectives of this event were: 1) To present our new IT curriculum, 2) To present our Alumni Survey result, and 3) To share some highlight updates of PN Philippines.

New IT curriculum

To ensure that our training program fits IT industry needs, we make sure of the quality and relevance of our curriculum. To do so, we send out regularly (every two-three years) IT skills market survey to our partner companies to know about their projects, infrastructure, technologies, and the programming languages they use.

Early this year, we finalized this survey and we have come up with a new curriculum out of the results. The results, together with our newly revised training curriculum, were showcased during the event by PN Philippines’ IT Training Manager, Rene Abdallah.

In this year’s survey, we learned that the industry’s focus is clearly on developing Web and Mobile applications, using modern frameworks like Angular 2+ and Ionic. On the back-end side, Python is slowly taking over as one of the major programming languages. Companies are also looking closely at automating their processes (testing, integration, release, and delivery parts), as well as making more optimized use of their data, using tools like MongoDB and ElasticSearch. Last but not least, we realized that two-thirds of our partner companies favour the curiosity, learning potential, and communication skills of their new applicants, over the hard skills solely, which is in line with our holistic approach to training.

The new curriculum we created out of the survey is now being applied to our current students and will completely be implemented in the next academic year.

Alumni Survey result

Another regular survey we conduct is the alumni survey. This survey is one of our ways to assess the impact of our actions in the community. Throughout this survey, we are able to identify the career performance of our alumni, how much they are earning, the amount of money they give to support their family’s needs, and the contributions they give to the community.

During the event, we presented to our partners some highlights of the 2018 alumni survey results which showed very positive implications.

The team is really happy with the result of the alumni survey. One of its highlights is on the difference between how much our alumni are earning now on average and how much their families were earning on average before PN – the amount increased five times! With this amount, the alumni are giving back 30% of their income to their family as financial support for daily needs including school fees of younger siblings. Knowing things like this makes me proud not just of our scholars but also of what PN is doing for the community. It clearly shows that we are not only able to reach our mission of helping underprivileged families but we also address the gap in the IT Industry.

PNP highlight updates

While most of our active partners were present during the event, we also took the opportunity to present to them some highlight actions of the organization in the last months. One of those was the recent major organizational transitions in the team. Eléonore Iriart, who has been our General Manager since January 2016, has been transferred to be the new General Manager of PN Cambodia. To replace her position, Marice Jade Chua, who has been our External Relations Manager since August 2017, has been promoted as the new General Manager. Thessa Torre was also promoted to replace Jade’s position; she has been in PN Philippines’ External Relation Department since August 2016.

I am excited to provide my support to the entire PNP team and to all our scholars. I am looking forward to producing not just technically competent individuals but compassionate leaders as well to improve the community where we live in.
