During the opening ceremony, Mr. Aun Pornmoniroth, Cambodian Minister of Economy and Finance presented the Cambodian digital economy situation, the industrial revolution 4.0 opportunities, key factors and policies which will enable the creation of a robust digital environment for the regional and global digital economy.

“Cambodia may have to spend the first five years setting all of the fundamental elements needed to prepare for digitization, then five or ten more years to develop the digital economy to aim for a technology-based economy,” the Minister said.

Ms. Ellen Goldstein, Director of the World Bank for Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos shared information on the benefits of the digital economy, on four priorities to facilitate digital development and the key challenges of digital development in Cambodia
“Only one out of four firms has a website, and the number of e-government services offered is limited. To move forward, the country will need targeted policies to strengthen the basis upon which a digital economy can thrive.” She said.
